Anyone going to this show this weekend?
I am making a trip down to Albany to go to the show and the with is going to the malls for some pre X-Mas shopping.
This will be the 1st show I have attended in at least 8 years. I am not expecting much, so if things are good I will be really happy. If not I won't be disappointed.

Well I went to the show last weekend and had a pretty good time. There were about 15 dealers or so. A nice selection of comics from all ages.
The show was having a costume contest. We saw:
2 stormtroopers
2 speederbike troopers
Darth Vader
Supergirl (WOW)
Gambit
Jubilee
a bunch of manga characters that I had no idea who they were (but my son id'd some of them for me)
2 girls who looked like trashy prostitutes????
I did not buy a lot because money is a bit tight right now. But I bought the following:
Iron Man vol. I
328 NM
319 NM
196 VF
166 VF
145 VF
129 VF
116 VF
115 VF
96 VF
Iron Man Director of SHIELD 15 2nd print variant
GI Joe Master & Apprentice 1-4 NM
Marvel Team-Up 145 VF (IM cover)
Nth Man
12 NM
13 NM
My son won a set of DW Transformers 0-10, which is really cool because my son is a transformers fanatic. (he already has 2 sets but said he would use them as trade bait)
My son also bought 2 Transformers for a total of 20 dollars.
I spent a grand total of 29 dollars which included the cover charge of 5 dollars each.
I did see the stereotypical comic geek there (the overweight, bad body odor, late 20's, still living with mom) I have to admit I am bit overweight myself (so no casting stones from my part) but deodorant is a good thing, especially in public!!!. I knew this guy was still living at home because at one point the mom (50's ish woman) asked if he was ready to go, and he replied "but mom I just got to the Spidey's" There were about three people that I saw or were next to (smelled), that fit the bill appropriately!!!
I would go back to this show in the future. Most of the dealers were very friendly and enjoyed talking "shop". Only one dealer acted like he did not want to be there. It was a small show but had a decent turnout. I did not get any autographs or sketches from the artists/writers as most seemed to be self-important and did not want to be bothered. Just my impression and I could be totally wrong on the point who knows. Some of the fans were downright rude but most were great. I even had several nice conversations with fans while digging through the 3/1.00 bins, which I did not find much I wanted (lots of Dark Reign overstock and 90's Image stuff was present)

Sounds like it was a worthwhile trip and a good time for all.

I went. It's just two miles from my house, which is awesome! There actually wasn't a show in the area for many years, and then John and Matt Belskis (of Excellent Adventures (http://www.myspace.com/eacomics) in Ballston Spa) organized the first of these semi-annual shows back on April 27, 2008 (IIRC). I've been to the five subsequent shows, including last week's. As I mentioned over on the 'won lately (http://www.comicscorral.com/forums/showthread.php?1362-What-have-you-Corralers-Won-Bought-Lately&p=81958#post81958)' thread, I somehow got pretty lucky and found some of the best wares for bottom-feeding right outta the gate.
Yeah, some of the vendors are always grumpy. But the show sure has grown. I always find it entertaining. I'm pretty well-acquainted with about a quarter of the vendors, and can at least recognize the rest. The guy I bought the most from this year was Tomorrow's Treasures (http://www.tomorrowstreasures.com/), who knew John from back on the day, and came up from Long Island for the show. Said he had other business in the area. A bunch of the dollar books had a kid's name and address on the indicia, and it was an Albany address. So, maybe he was buying a collection, and scuttled a bunch into the $1 & $3 & $5 boxes. Regardless, I got some good stuff there.
The major 3/$1 boxes (that I saw) were from Aquilonia (http://aquiloniacomicsandcards.com/) (Troy). The pickings were weak, compared with former shows. A few years back, when eBay was stronger on Moderns, they were quarter books, with lots of major titles. I'd grab fistfuls of Uncanny X-Men and Wolverines for to flip. This show was the weakest selection of 3/$1 books, and the first time I bought none.
A couple other vendors discontinued dollar or discount boxes, starting with this show. Used to get a lot if beat silver for a buck in those boxes. Maybe next time. I never stay until the end of the show, so maybe I miss some discounts there.
Anyway, fun show. Closest thing to a real show I get to. Can never justify the expense of the real long trip. Maybe one of these years I'll get to NYC.
