Warning to all comic book artists.
Please do not be fooled by Joe Quesada and Deviantart.com. Marvel nor any other publisher, comic book company, artist company isn’t looking on deviantart.com or recruiting any artists.
Why you ask? I have also asked this question. So here is the answer. Its a scam pulled by Joe Quesada and deviantart.com to get new artist to join that website and make advertisement money for them. Joe Quesada in the end receives some commission or profit. So its free work while they make the money from adverisment hits by viewers.
How do I know Joe Quesada is involved? Simple why else would he mention in most of his, as head chief of Marvel, speeches that Marvel and he would be look on the internet for artists constantly. He emphasised deviantart.com. Unless you were trying to pull something why would you say deviantart.com when you knew it wasn’t true.
He knew their were huge number of submissions and fan art so he and deviant deviantart.com agreed that he would lie about marvel looking for artists on deviantart.com in return he would get profit too and what better way to make the new heard, cancel submission and lie.
Deviantart.com has become the main source where marvel artists/staff steal many ideas, poses from artists who upload drawing on there. Many creations are stole but no one knows. Submissions are no longer required so their is no paper work to sign like submissions.
How do most artist make it into Marvel/DC comics? Some were joe Quesadas friends. Some selfpublished and later sent submissions. No one was sought out by Marvel or DC comics. Some are friends of the marvel staff.
Do other people care? No, to most people, collectors or childeren, who are the ones that dictate what is popular in deviantart, they like downloading drawings, copying and pasting drawings which deviantart.com gets each minute so anytime you mention something bad about deviantarrt you will reported or banned from deviantart.com.
I’m I lieing about Joe Quesada? No, I, a comic book artist in my prime, have been on deviantart.com for years but never been contacted by Marvel. I also know many excellent comic book artists who are on deviantart.com for years some even over 6 years but never received an offer by deviantart.com or any publisher. That would be most of the best unpublished artists.
Since the day Joe Quesada cancelled Marvel submissions along with other comic book companies Deviantart.com has become bigger and more popular making millions off advertisement money. To this day Joe Quesadas still remarks that he and his staff we’ll be looking on deviantart.com for new artist though Marvel is overfull of artists and applicants.
If anyone disagrees, reply. Or else hold your peace and I assume you agree.
here is a quote from Marvel
“While we can’t accept your unsolicited submissions, please know that Marvel is always looking for new comic book artists and writers. We constantly read and review indie, self-published, creator-owned, and web-comics, review popular online art communities, ask other artists for opinions and recommendations, and host portfolio reviews at conventions from time to time. If you are an aspiring comic book artist or writer, we suggest you publish or publicly post your material, continue to create, and if you have the right stuff…we’ll find you”
truth no one in Marvel/ DC is doing this. They have a bunch of applicants waiting to be contacted if they ever are is unlikely.
I have stopped using deviantart.com instead put my artwork on different websites because you’ll likely be at least appreciated and get fans in other websites. You can use deviantart.com, photobucket. No one is going to stop you but remember your are helping a scam grow that will prevent you from ever getting noticed or really hired by anyone. Its gotten so big that other websites are ignored by fans, collectors, artists.
Why I'm writing this? Well Deviantart know poses a threat to many commission artists since deviantart has become a small/personnel website killer. People dont want commissions since they know they will be able to download art work off devianart.com esp. know since most artists will think Marvel/DC comics will hire them based on What Joe Quesada has said. Even if the artwork says its for sale a anyone can copy and paste and don't care if its low resolution. So artist won't be able to sell materials thru a personal website or sell drawings at all.
