since no one else is posting I will...
I'm taking nominations for the worst comic artist of all time.... I'll even turn it into a poll at some point. My thoughts for worst all time mainstream comic artist is.
Tony Salmon (anyone remember him?)

Two for me: Rick Leonardi and Rob Liefeld. If I had to pick just one, it would probably be Liefeld. I hate him for more than just his atrocious artwork. :x

Oh man, so many to choose from... I hate the American Manga style, so Joe Mad and Humberto Ramos top this list.

Same here. I'm really sick of Ramos on Wolverine right now... #banghead#

what about Sienkiewicz's painted period? Did anyone besides me hate it?

John Romita Jr's artwork does nothing for me.

Sorry Camper, that's not good enough - ya gotta hate them! :-)
One of the worst - Frank Robbins. UGH!

Rob Liefeld, I feel bad hating anyones art work, but I really can't stand the way he drops lines. Maybe he does some good art else where, but...
Er"ICK!" Larsen--ICK ICK ICK, it all looks flat like someone cut out the shapes from kraft paper and glued it down. Maybe a really good inker would have helped.

I'm gonna have to vote for Rob Liefeld as well. Anyone going to pick up the new Onslaught title? :)

I think we need some comparative pages postings here.. can anyone help out with this? I particularly am thinking of Salmon's work on the hulk.

I think we need some pix here. I have a bad memory, what does Salmon's work look like?

Just you I think. I liked that stuff personally.

And I'll have to ask again for someone to post some artwork of the nominated artiists since I clearly don't have my collection with me.
Then we can turn this into a poll.

I just never liked Frank Robbins art. It always looks like he inked it with the eraser end of a pencil. Big, crude, chunky blocks of black; it looked sloppy.
I also never cared much for Mike Sekowsky.
I don't know the individual Archie Comics artists, but there was one whose work I hated; he always drew the characters in a sort of half-crouch, like they had bad backs. Then there was one whose work I loved, and I have no idea who he was. They didn't list credits when I was reading my sister's books.

I think we need more guidelines before we nominate any. For one thing, it wouldn't be fair to name somebody on the basis of a small amount of work. For example, Barry Windsor Smith did some truly atrocious work early in his career. Take a look at X-Men #53. Yet, he has come to be considered a great artist by many. I think a fairer criterion is to judge an artist who you think was consistently bad over a period of time. Of course that begs the question, if he was so bad for so long, why was he still working as an comic artist?
Ultimately, it come down to personal taste, much like who is the best.

Liefeld has been consistently bad. McFarlane's early ASM and some of his Spider-man were okay but Spawn was ridiculous with that cape etc.

Rick. Leonardi. One. Of. The. Worst.

I like Rick Leonardi, but admittedly haven't seen any of his stuff for about 20 years or so. Did he get worse or something?
Pat Broderick I always had problems with. His art always looks dirty and everyone has the same 3/4 profile with their mouth open like they're trying to eat a large sandwich or something.

I haven't see any of his work lately, it's just that I remember fondly back in the 80's that his art sucks. He did some Spiderman and X-men issue.

Robbins wasn't very good either...
I seem to remember Leonardi's stuff as being ok...
and I like the criteria - consistantly bad over a long period of time.
so you can nominate someone who started well and turned into a hack,
but nominating someone who improved is bad form.
still it's a lot about taste.

Frank Robbins - oh man did he suck! Reminds me of another Frank that sucked - Frank Springer.
BWS - aw, that's called "growing pains". (Check his early Avengers and DD before he did Conan, they suck too!) He and Steranko were Kirby clones to begin with. I agree, these artists are not "consistently bad over a period of time" and don't deserve to be here. I love Joe Kubert's stuff but he sucked when he started too.
My new nominee - Herb Trimpe! Awful. Only time it looked good was when one of the Severins inked hiw work. Too bad he's the artist on the mega-key Hulk # 181.
I also hate Dick Sprang and his goofy/smiling Batman.

"so you can nominate someone who started well and turned into a hack, "
That immediately brings to mind Carmine Infantino. His stuff in the 80's was terrible! But his Silver Age Flash is nice stuff.
