My scans of CGC books cme out like crap

Any suggestions, I am using Photoshop 5.

Are they coming off the scanner like crap? Some scanners, such as the Canon CanoScan LIDE scanners, just cannon handle scanning slabbed books.

Is the sacnner an all-in-one (print/scan/fax)?

Yes it is a Dell all in one scanner. I can't get good scans, any advice?
