I would call it a fail but you never know if that term has been trademarked.Pretty sure spoon has been so...

Here are a couple of deals that pretty much sucked for me.

#1) I won 15 Whitman treasury King Kong books described as "great condition" for for $15 and $13 shipping. They were sent loose in a Flat Rate Priority box.Every book had an "old" price sticker on the cover,6 had the original price marked out with black marker and one had a huge ugly piece of masking tape on the cover. Not to mention they were so dirty I had to wash my hands after holding them.I could actually see the dirt on my fingers.Plus a couple of cobwebs hanging from the corners.

I emailed the seller (pfdturbo 30fb) describing the "undisclosed" defects and they were not great, did he want them back? The reply was no.He had a friend sell 2 of them for $13 each and I could easily make my money back with a little time.Filed a claim and he responded he would take them back but I pay shipping.I said no,he should cover it.He refused and PP found in my favor & I got a refund but I found out I was an idiot and not to bid on any more of his auctions.

#2) Captain Marvel #60 in fine+ from highend_collectibles.It looked nice but has a large coffee stain on the back cover.Just emailed him with this message:

Undisclosed coffee(?)stain on back cover.Nowhere fine+.So,if I return the comic for a refund of $1.99 I will be out the $3.99 shipping plus $2.07(actual cost)to return it to you.It will have cost me a total of $4.07 to not keep the book.Does that seem logical?

Waiting for reply.

Care to share your experiences here? Could get interesting.Fell free to add these sellers to your avoid list.

I feel your pain. Over time, I have developed a couple of rules for myself to follow which has minimize bad transactions for me.

1 - I avoid the priority mail auctions as it indicates to me that the seller is going to throw it into a free box without much thought to proper packing. There are exceptions but I am talking about gut reactions.

2 - If they don't typically sell comics I contact them first and ask questions

3 - If there is any negative feedback that has to do with missed stuff like rusty staples, water damage, etc. I don't bother at all.

4 - Most of my purchases on ebay I contact the seller and make sure that they will shipping in some fashion to avoid shipping damages.

I bought a 2 large lots of men's magazines on ebay a couple months ago because of the Stephen King stories that were in 4-5 mags out of the lots. The Stephen King issues themselves worth way more than I paid for the two lots......or so I thought.

Every magazine was missing the centerfold making them all incomplete. Needless to say not happy.......but give the seller credit.......sent me a full refund and just told me to keep the mags (which will mostly go into the trash).

So I wasn't out anything but I would not have gone through the hassle if I knew the items were incomplete......

Missing centerfolds on men's magazines is a gigantic defect.

Just got an email on on the CM 60:

Dear toz1960,

Hi, I'm sorry you don't agree with the grade. Grading is very subjective and not everybody agrees with a certain grade. No worries, I'll refund you the whole amount and you keep the book for your troubles. Thanks again--Bryan

I dont post anything anywhere until the deal is complete or the refund is done.

CGC boards are full of bad deals that could have been avoided if both parties just talked.
Not saying the guy didnt deserve to get trashed, but by publishing this in an open forum
before the refund or transaction is complete you run the risk of the seller just telling you
tough **** and then you will have to file thru paypal and ebay hope you did everything right.

Wise words. I think we feel that this is a small collection of posters here but many people read these boards. Just look at the post counts when there is a new sales thread.

I dont even bother with ebay anymore. I just go to CCL I have not had any problems on there. Great sellers on there with very very strict grading depending on the store.

What and where is CCL?

Comic Collector Live, very terrific. My only caveat is they use stock photos, not the actual comic being sold and while the sellers on page one are terrific, when you get past them it's hit and miss.

You are thinking about this wrong.
When you return an item on ebay, the seller has to refund entire shipping cost.
You "might" have to go through PP to get it, but always assume that you will only be return shipping OOP.
So you would get back $6 for $2 return cost.

gb,I understand what you,re saying but I've never seen it before. Is it in ebay's terms somewhere?
Most sellers terms I look at say the seller is to assume return cost and I have done it that way in the too.I can see if it's for some reason other than sellers mistake. When I sell an item I always state this.If it's my fault I'll cover return shipping. What gets me is the sellers don't give full disclosure, like the coffee stain or the stickers on every copy of the King Kong.Highend_collectibles should have known better.I'm also very tired of the "subjective"comment. It's really worn out.

I've also bought many, many comics from non-comic book sellers and 99% of the time I'm quite pleased. All I ask for is the truth about the item.

whoops, when I stated "entire shipping cost" I should have clarified.
That means the entire shipping cost of getting book from seller TO you the buyer.
Buyer is responsible for return shipping costs to the seller (according to ebay)
I also cover shipping both ways if it is my fault, which I had to do for the first time last year when I put the wrong label on a book. Unfortunately, I sold it to a different buyer, otherwise I would have had them keep it.
