View Full Version : Some Drama On The CGC Boards, PGX Will Always Haunt Me

Hey everyone, I know it's been a long time.
I have a new tale of misery and whoa! from the land of PGX.
I go on the CGC forums on Saturday night for the first time in over 2 years. I see a post called "CGC or PGX" I check it out, someone responded "I heard the guy that runs PGX runs it out of his Moms basement". I respond: "Thats not too far from the truth!" half jokingly. My favorite troll "theshadowknows" instantly starts in on me, calling me the biggest liar on the internet, accusing me and James of making up the whole PGX story, and trying to "ram innocent people into the ground"...etc. I cornered him about some things I know I can prove about him and he flipped out, started throwing threats around about my wife and my kid. The mods pulled the thread almost instantly.
The point is, I would have never even started in on this guy had he not opened his big mouth and started attacking me first. I reminded him over and over in the thread that HE started this and HE brought this on himself. He still wouldn't stop. I don't know what his problem is but he really needs some anger-management or something.
B.S. like this is exactly why I have been hesitant to post my PGX piece, its just not worth being hounded all the time by people like that and getting threats and whatnot.

Methinks your problem has more to do with the CGC board than with PGX.

I saw the thread and read the first few pages.seems like I did see your post but I've heard the whole CGC/PGX before so I just moved on and guess I missed the fun.He must have been a PGX apologist. The truth is out there.
I don't post much there, just like to look at all the pretty funny books.

What's the truth about PGX? Could it possibly be even more self-serving than CGC?
IS PGX related to the Pacific Comics Exchange in anyway?

+1 I feel like this board is drama free. So please keep it over there. Sorry I don't know you and I am sure that some posters here do. Why feel the need to share this over here when you haven't posted in awhile. Just move. It seems like most of the members cannot forget and they will hammer things to death and then some.

I actually used to be a moderator on THIS board, dude.
Yes, I have been away for a while, I'm just getting back on my feet. Sorry about that. I was just trying to spread the word about PGXs shadiness, obviously no one is interested so I will "just move".

I go on the CGC forums on Saturday night...
Well, that was your first mistake.
I have never encountered a more hostile and unwelcoming site than the CGC forum. The basic feel I got from the place was, "If you're not one of us then don't bother posting because we will destroy you and do whatever it takes to ruin your time here". That may be a bit too broad brush a statement considering that several of our Corral members are also posters there, and I certainly don't want to insult them, or anyone for that matter. But the CGC the forum is not a friendly place and the only times I've visited the site, I've always come away wishing I hadn't.
Say what you will about PGX, I'm certainly not their promoter nor an apologist for them, but no one from PGX has ever treated me with the downright hostility that the folks at the CGC forum have.

No need to get snide. My comments were not mean-spirited but your appear to be. No, it seems that you are still complaining about the happenings over from another board. Personally, I don't understand why. I am not a "dude". Please show some respect.
I was writing something else and accidently deleted the word, 'ON'. Relax these boards are not hostile.

Again, I was just trying to warn everyone about him, he might end up on your board next, that's how he operates. I wasn't trying to "bring any drama over here". Where the hell is Charlton Guy or Hoss? They know what I'm talking about!

You two are making me laugh because I've seen you both behave in a very civil manner. To me it's like you are bickering over something that wasn't going to be a problem.
One of the reason I still post here is because people here buy comics you can open. People can collect whatever they want, but chatting about a number on a case would bore me very quickly. I don't actively collect anymore, so it doesn't matter anyway.

Please don't misunderstand me, I know exactly what you mean. I'm just saying that every time I've ventured to the CGC forum it's been a bad experience, I don't understand the culture over there. It seems to be very popular with a lot of people however so clearly others have had a different experience from mine. And not to worry about anyone showing up here bringing his badness...I know how to work the mute button pretty well and won't allow but so much of that stuff.
As to the location of Hoss and CG; They're busy working on the new rebooted Charlton Universe! No? Well....I just don't know then...

I.M. #hello#
I posted in the "CGC or PGX" thread (it was started by an Aussie newbie from Tasmania).
I linked to Old Guy's http://www.justafanboy.com/PGX/ expose and suggested that he bookmark it before the thread was pulled #rofl# . Talk about prescient.
I don't know Dennis (The Shadow Knows) and avoid posting in threads in which he is participating. The lack of candour when it comes to the shared IP address, I find disturbing, and for a while every time that matter was raised, he would respond with a "PM sent" post.
Lately the response has been "asked and answered - move on".
That's not an explanation as far as I'm concerned.
In a larger sense, I don't now why CGC would yank an anti-PGX thread. Edit a few posts, OK. Then why did TSK go to such lengths to get the whole thread pulled?
Something is not right.
As to the "hostility" on the CGC Boards, one has to grow a thick skin quickly. That said, I have found a lot of great contacts (and, dare I say, friends) "over there". Just today I got freebies from poster AJD that are a few Carl Barks Donald Duck Adventures trading cards and a great copy of Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #56.
This was out of the blue and certainly unsolicited.
So, there is some karma there - and Yarmak, if you are reading this, here's where the Buck Rogers book ended up. Please note the terms by which Paratrooper acquired the book: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1357208&fpart=77

Hey Duff how are ya man, TSK "went there(brought my family into it)" because he knew I had him cornered. It was the only way to get the thread pulled and he knew it. CGC had no choice but to pull the thread after he threatened my family.
There is a follow-up thread Scott(FFB) started about it:

Pretty well put. That's the general sense I get there, as well. I lurk at times, for information. There's some good detective work going on there, on occasion. But it's a very cliquy board. I don't care for that much. Don't care to even try to join in. I've been on boards that have been around for a long time, and eventually become the same way. Can be a bummer when they do. It seems to me a lot of you are giving the CGC forum a bad rap without really understanding it. There are no cliques. However, it may appear that way simply because most of the boardies have actually met each other and shook hands at some point or another. If you come on there with attitude, you will be flamed and joked about. If you come there with an open mind and a willingness to be part of something big, as well as thick skin and a sense of humour, you'll be fine. The CGC boards are the most legitimate forums I've ever been on, and like Duffman, I have met some really awesome people and I have had some awesome experiences because of them.
My point is, don't judge the CGC boards based on someone else's bad experience. Go there for yourself. If it works for you, awesome. If not, that's fine too. Not everyone gets along with some of the people there. But don't make generalizations about the WHOLE forum, since it's really a great place.

Liam......It is great you have had wonderful experiences on the CGC boards.....obviously not everyone has.
Probably every member here is also a member there or has at least been to the CGC boards to lurk so they seem to have made there on opinions (good or bad) based on their own experiences.
CGC positives.....great board with a wealth of information, lots of help/auctions for members in need, nice sales threads, virtual comic con, and many friendly members (some who I have met in person)
CGC negatives.....I disagree on the cliques aspect. Seems very clique oriented to me.....and maybe because that boardies have met with each other and spent much time with one another. Only natural to clique together. And you yourself post out another problem (needing a thick skin)....why is this?....because there is way too much snarkiness by certain members...not necessary to be that way.....and really who needs that? And the threads with the smiley wars....really yuck.
Overall I think the CGC board has way more positives than negatives and I will continue to visit there often.....but that doesn't mean I will post there much.
I do find it funny that every time the Corral is brought up in a thread on the CGC board (one going on right now) that many members feel the need to attack this little Cyberspace in the Universe.....#rofl#.
Really the only time when we have ever had problems with members here at the Corral being hostile and negative is when we have had it spill over from the CGC boards......otherwise this is as laid back and friendly a place you can post......and some damn fine people to boot!!
I have met several Corralites in person (most recently malaprop #hello#) and have never been disappointed!

Hi Liaton9000, Welcome to the Boards.
I don't have an issue with the CGC forum. I've been a member since 2003 and use the forum primarily to buy comics. In fact I just paid for a nice looking Silver Age Cap today. :) I'd say at least 95% of the books I've purchased in the last four years have been from there or here on the Corral. Just about all of my experiences there have been good.

I actually used to be a moderator on THIS board, dude.
Yes, I have been away for a while, I'm just getting back on my feet. Sorry about that.
Something very wrong here. After all this drama Iron Maniac has just gone away again.

Erik takes bullshit over on CGC, but was instrumental in pointing out how PGX was less than
professional after Danial fkd he and James over on some webwork. And when the less than
professional facts on PGX came to light, several CGC forum members were caught with their
dix in their hands.
Dennis is slinging shit at this place because Hoss got tired of his constantly caustic attitude
towards everyone and pretty much everything.
In a way, Stu is caustic about stirring the same shit up over and over, but does it in a way
the you can't help but feel sorry for him. Just guessing which newbie he is this week is a
bit entertaining on the weekends.

All that would be fine with me if the individuals in question were at least occasional posters over here. But if you're soliciting sympathy/support here for a battle over on another board that's known for rancor, you should at least be willing to contribute something to this board.

After almost 20 years of listening to all the tussles on all the boards over the years, it
seems like some people never contribute, only take. Still see some very familiar names
with very good people attatched to them, only to be shouted down by the rude and
socially inept. Sad really.

This thread? But does the rest of this board not interest you? You complain about the shenanigans on the CGC board but you continue to post over there to the exclusion of other boards! That's what I'm talking about.

I haven't posted on the CGC boards either dude. I'm not "complaining" about the subject any more and haven't in a while, so drop it now. Again, sorry I got you involved if that is why you are so bitter. Otherwise, let it go. I had a lot more time to post when I started this thread and do not have time now, it's as simple as that, it's not that I am not interested. Got it? Good.

IM now you get a good idea why I walked away from this board. I got sick of the "saintliness" attitude's and in general the denigration of some eras of comics here. I find the board to be every bit as cliquey as CGC. People may be nicer here but when it comes right down to it their attitudes suck in a whole other way and one that is not nice. It can suck the life right out of you.
Now don't get me wrong there are some great people here, as on any board, but they have not noticed they have created an environment that is not very inclusive.
Sorry Corralers but that's how I see it and anyone looking through this thread will get this same impression. I also am not surprised at the disrespect shown either as it is all a part of the nature here.

Which areas? I find a lot of areas ignored on this board, perhaps due to a lack of posters, but none really denigrated.

What "disrespect"? A contentious issue was raised. You have to expect some disagreement.

CGC's board is a little hostile occasionally, but recently it has calmed down alot. Some just like to stir it for fun because they are bored I guess. Its been pretty low drama the last few weeks.
What makes that board a little more problematic is that all the money some of those books bring. It brings out the bad side in some people and some very unsavory people from our hobby. That said along with some hyping a book because they have a strong vested interest overall its not a bad place.
Last few years I have seen several very charitable acts for people who have been robbed, unemployed, or their house has burned down. I have been very impressed with their charity auctions and the VCC as well.
So in the end the board has drama and issues, but you cant beat it for information and for just plain networking.

Yo, Ironmaniac, how ya doing buddy!!! We miss ya over at StlComics. As for nocutename, she sounds like she WANTS to be put over someone's lap and get a good spankin'. Don't take no crap from her or Hepcat, Erik. Your contributions to the comic book industry are extremely appreciated. This board doesn't seem very friendly or informative. You are better off at the StlComics forum. We are all anxiously waiting for the new grading contest!!

I know nothing about Iron Maniac or his contributions to the comic book industry. My only interest is his contributions here, and this thread was hardly a positive contribution.
On that note, you could try contributing something to this board yourself to make it more "informative". And disinterring threads such as this with no useful content is hardly a positive contribution.

This forum might be more "friendly" and "informative" if members concentrated their efforts more on discussing comics and less on discussing other members. If you have a problem with another member on this forum, contact one of the moderators, if you have a problem with a member from or on another forum, deal with it there.

Well Geebus!
I feel kinda left out on all the homecoming here...seems like it's time for a reunion Corral style ladies and gents!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/Hank27/Corral-Logo-2x2.jpg
Some forums are better for lurking, others to join in...STL and the Corral are my home away from home as far as I'm concerned. Most people don't need to see their relatives everyday but you know they'll be there when you need them..kinda like here and STL.
I haven't been able to post since Christmas cause my mom 84, had a terrible stroke and fell down a flight of stairs. She's been in the hospital for over two months now and Pooser and I just finished (a couple of days ago) moving the entire 110 years worth of collectibles and antiques to our house (which now looks like the place they stored the ark at the end of Raiders). Point is, I come back here and it feels like it's just been a few days not months. I love you guys and gals so it's just nice to see our dysfunctional comic book family all together again! LoL!
Carry on!

Thanx DH, she's being paneled for a Health Care Facility right now so hopefully she can go to one we want soon. She can't really move much other then tilt her head a bit and move her right arm a little so she does need round the clock care from now on. I'm glad we had three great days through Christmas together just before this happened, makes me feel a little better considering how different she is now. This was her on Christmas day...

Best wishes to your mother, Hank. It's tough watching a loved one go through the recovery process. It took my father about a month, and even though he could eventually walk, he was considerably slower and got tired much more easily. Just keep on doing as much for you as you possibly can; and remember the warm feeling of the family coming together, and how everyone is focused on your mother now. Those things will mean a lot to you.
