I took my family to see Eragon the other day and I will for sure be buying the DVD when it comes in. This movie is the first of a trilogy and I will be going to see the next one. Take my word for it, go and see this movie.
Everyone in my family (sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, myself) loved it BTW!

You might like it, Doc. But it hasn't been getting very good review but we liked it.

Sorry Linda, but Eragon is about to get another poor review.
I was really disappointed in it. Yeah, it had great special effect, the dragon was cool, but...
The young hero had zero charisma. Plus, I really felt like a lot of plot points were left out. I know this always happens when a book goes to the screen, but the resulting movie must be complete enough to satisfy anyone who hasn't read the book. In this case, things just jumped from one situation to another; no flow, no transitions.
John Malkovich's performance was the ultimate definition of chewing the scenery. Waaaaay over the top.
There was no effort to make this world a real place. What was the role of the Dragonriders before they disappeared? Where they warriors in a world that didn't need them?
No one ever thought of following one of the good guys to their hiding place? Even though I never earned a merit badge in tracking, (in fact, I was never a Boy Scout) I just couldn't buy the hidden fortress. And the battle was murky, confused and too video-gamish.
I love fantasy movies, and I had great hopes for this movie, but it didn't come through.

I did not read the book, but JJ did and he said that the movie made a lot of mistakes... I liked the movie, but I thought it seemed a bit thrown together, it seemed like a lot of stuff was unconnected, and if you hadn';t read the book, than you don't know for sure what was going on... it was a good movie though, and we await the next 2, which we are planning to go to as well
