Do you collect comics mainly for the art or for the story? For me, I collect comics mostly for the art. I’m a visual kind of guy. Comics are a visual medium. I see, therefore, I collect.
I’m not saying the story is not important. However, I could easily look at pretty pictures all day, even if the story sucks. The reverse is not always true. It would take an outstanding story for me to muddle through crappy art.

I see the art first so I guess I would say "Art" but like you jael if the art sucks I ain't buying the comic. The reason I quit buying a title is if I hate the art first!

It's pretty much 50/50 for me. I find myself following writers to new books and as long as the art is passable, I'll stick with it. OTOH, there are many comics I've collected for the art alone. As stated, it's a visual medium and therefore must have visual appeal.

Both for me, if the art sucks like most brand new comics do (sorry modern collectors) "NEAL ADAMS RULES" I won't bother with it even if its the single most important story on the planet. Most times I look to the front cover and decide if the story is worth the purchase price unless it's something I just collect without question.
