I just caught the last minute of this auction and don't get it. Shouldn't this book be in the $50 -100 k range? It's located in the UK, but I didn't see anything to indicate it isn't a US edition. Anyone?

OK, now I see it's been restored, but still seems low.

It looks suspicious to me. Private feedback bidders. Seller's last few transactions are women's and baby clothing and slimming magazines. If it was legit, it was a great bargain. I think most people stayed away simply because it didn't look right. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a highjacked account.

Looks almost like a hijacked ID to me. If I have a rare and potentially very valuable comic for sale...you can bet for darn sure that I'd have great big clear scans of it to maximize my potential profit, not those cheesy little eBay pics!

The last time that exact book sold was in June 2006, and it sold for $26,100.01. The sale shows up on GPA. The book wouldn't sell for the real big money (over 100K) because it not only has restoration, but has been classified as "Extensive Professional Restoration". They didn't just do a couple of color touches. That book was rebuilt from the ground up. #oldie#

So if this was a real sale this week for $4,000, I guess it's safe to say that someone took a major haircut over the last 7 months.

Two things are making me think the sale wasn't real: ebay has pulled the listing and GPA still hasn't reported the sale. Chances are this was some http://forum.stlcomics.com/images/smiles/Censored.gif trying to pull a fast one with stolen pics. Problem is there's just not that many copies of that issue floating around. On top of that, how many were graded at that grade by CGC with those exact restoration notes. It is too easily tracked these days given the information on a few different websites. I'm sure they found him out.
