What do y'all think? Would it be worth bidding on?

There's some cool stuff in there.
Note: the New Teen Titans #1 is the 2nd series, not the first though.
I don't see any real red flag warnings in there.

Hey Linda

Sorry to hear about the TOD lot, but like camper, I'd be interested in seeing what you thought about that other lot when you get it!

That's a nice grab, Linda. I think you paid a fair price for those books. Especially the Showcase #97, early What If? issues, and FF. Every time I tried to get a What If? lot, it goes higher in bids.

I would NEVER knowingly outbid you, Linda! There are just too many opportunities out there to have to bid against your friends!

That's OK, Gall.

There was no way you would know that I was watching that lot!! :)

I had been watching it since it was listed but wasn't planning on bidding until the last minutes of the auction. Both you and jay started bidding before I did! So all's good in the world!!

Peace,
Linda

An interesting thing happened with that Iron Man lot I won from moonmull...I'll reveal after I get the books.

Get those TOD's real soon. I just saw an ad for the Blade: Vampire Hunter animated series. Should make the prices go up a little.

I wonder if that show is going to be base off the comic or off the movies?

Lemmee see? The number one hottie Black superstar or a lame back-up wooden knife flinger? I pick the Wesley Snipes clone every time!

I just found a big stack of TOD's here! Whadda ya need?

So, this is the lot that I won from moonmull on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6628205047

Note that the title

IRON MAN 153-178 COMPLETE RUN

differs from the description:

Well, almost complete. 127 thru 133, 138 thru 153, 155 thu 178. All in nm/mint condition. All bagged and boarded.

Obviously, some sort of error was made, but since I was only looking at the item due to his posting "where are all the bidders?" on the eBay boards, I didn't feel any obligation to clarify. The wording seemed odd, but since he did reference the title in the body I figured it couldn't be a complete error and maybe it was just a typo in the title or something. My max bid was for $21.56 and I won it for $16.50. With $9.50 shipping it was $26 total, which I promptly paid using PayPal.

Moonmull e-mailed me shortly thereafter and said that there had been a mistake in the listing and that he had intended to break it up into two lots (although the nature of the description certainly makes it seem like he knew exactly what he was putting in this lot) and couldn't sell me the entirety of the listing in the description for the amount of the winning bid!

Normally I would view this as intent to non-perform from a seller, but since moonmull seems like a decent sort I asked him what it would take to salvage the deal for the full lot. He asked for an additional $10. I thought that was reasonable, even though I think I could have insisted otherwise, and since he replied politely and quickly, I made another PayPal payment to him for $14, making it a total of $40 (I put the extra $4 in to make it a nice round number and because I felt bad if indeed he HAD made an error - and $40 is still a fair price for that lot, delivered).

I also stated that I assumed the lot would be sent Priority Mail (knowing the Flat Rate PM box is $8.xx nowadays.

So, he mailed them out right away and I got them yesterday - but he didn't use a PM Flat Rate box and ended up paying $18+ to ship the lot to me! I guess there's nothing I can do about that, but it's a bummer for him. Maybe it seemed like I was insisting on Priority Mail and he just doesn't know about the Flat Rate boxes. I dunno.

So, bottom line is that I have the full lot of 47 comics in my hands for $40, or about 85 cents per book, which is about right for a superhero near-run from the late Bronze/early Copper era. Most of the books are indeed in NM condition, but 10 of them are in the VF/VF- range. The conditions were within expectations.

Overall, a decent purchase, but not a stellar deal for a cheapskate like me.

I just found it ironic that just as I was exhorting simon-garth to "do the right thing" and pay his overbid error to moonmull, the beneficiary of my advocacy asked me for more money, even though it was his error. I probably won't be doing business with moonmull again, although I'm only going to mention this here and not on the eBay board.

Wow. You were a lot nice than I would have been. Mistake or not, that's his problem. The way the auction was worded he knew what he was doing and was just pissed they didn't go for more. I would have told him to refund my money (or start the process to get it refunded), told him to shove the comics up his ass, and neg'd the shit out of him. But maybe that's just me. I guess if you were happy with the lot, nothing to worry about.

Ditto what SP said, doesn't matter if a seller is a fellow poster, a deal is a deal.

Gall, your a good egg!! Because I'm with the others I would had asked for my money back. That auction ran for 7 days and you can't tell me that he didn't check it from time to time and should had found the mistake then. JMHO!

Like MG said "A deal is a deal"!

GALLINATOR is indeed a nice guy!

He bought a pile of Silver Age ASMs from me a few years ago.
He thought that I over-graded some of them a bit but did not ask for anything in return as he thought he still got a great deal.

I applaud him for his honesty.
And...what goes around comes around.
He then won one of my BATMAN auctions afterwards in which I threw in a few Freebies (I think? GALL please confirm that I did this!) and gave him free shipping from Canada.
Basically when you're nice to someone, the favour usually gets returned one way or the other.

Gallinator

LOL! Yes, Camper, you did indeed take care of me very nicely! I'll readily admit that I am a bit tight when it comes to grading, so I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of people would be and have been very pleased with your grades. Thanks for the good words!

I get teased by people like kenmacny when I express a view like, "I don't always want to pay the lowest price" because to them it doesn't make sense. But, what I really want to see is a healthy market for back issues on a venue like eBay - which means that sellers have to be able to make money. Sure, I want "good" deals, but I also don't mind paying a little more if the price is still below my max. Hence, I agreed to send the extra money for this auction. That lot filled a large gap in my Iron Man collection and the benefit to me was greater than the principle of the matter. Plus, I knew I would actually get the books and it wasn't just a money grab.

If it had been a dealer I didn't "know" then I probably would have told him to sit-and-spin and refund my payment, and I would have left neutral feedback. As it is, I will leave moonmull a positive FB as soon as he leaves one for me.

I have long lived in industries that survived solely on repeat business. Comic sales to a dwindling hobby surely lies within this area. My axium is to that there should be an even number of A$$holes in any two person interaction -- You go first!

Trust me when I say that I am usually better at being the second AH! It is nice to hear from someone who takes the higher road and gets positive results on said path!

I salute you for your niceness! I am shamed enough to actually try your methods! I'll let you know how it goes.
