Since I go to a bunch of conventions each year I have met many comics creators and celebrities.
One of my favorite encounters was a few years ago at a book signing featuring "B" movie actor Bruce Campbell.
My wife, daughter and I went to a book store where Bruce was signing his new book. When our turn to get our book signed came we got to talk to Bruce for a minute (very groovy!) and then we were going to get our picture taken with him. Bruce proceeded to grab our young daughter and pulled her across the table and noogied her head.
After the pic Bruce let our daughter go.....she looked at him.....and screamed at the top of her lungs and went running away as far as she could get. That got a roar from the crowd waiting to get their books signed. Bruce proceeded to say "I have that effect on women". LOL!
Well, we went after the little one...calmed her down...and got her to go up to him one more time just to say everything was ok. We waited until he was done with the next signing. She quietly walked up to the table.....Bruce looked up and said something I don't remember....because as soon as he opened his mouth our daughter screamed at the top of her lungs again and ran like a bat out of hell! Someone from the crowd heckled Bruce saying "Hey, leave the little kid alone Bruce". That brought a big laugh!
Anyway here is a picture of stated event (pre-screaming and running for the hills!)

Years back, when they were filming the 1st X-Men movie, I'm an airline caterer (the guy that puts the food and beverages on the planes). The plane pulls into Milwaukee, I enter the A/C and who is standing in the back of the plane, waiting to exit, but Halle Berry. She was dating or married to some guy that lived here at the time, but that wasn't going to stop me from scoring. I lock eyes with her (I've been told mine are quite dreamy) and I know I have her. I'm not really a spiritual, touchy-feely kind of guy, but there was some kind of connection. A melding of karmas, or somesuch. I could tell that there was an aching loneliness inside of her that needed to be healed and I was just what the doctor ordered. I flashed my winning smile and threw out a sure winner. "Uh...So, how's the X-Men movie coming along." She answered back, "Fine." The passengers started moving and she left. Though I have never seen her since, I know she still wistfully pines for that unnamed caterer in Milwaukee.

Man, I've been lucky to meet many many comic creators. The show in Seattle was every 4 months and always had a couple good A/B list guests. I kept most of the flyers for "proof":

And living in Connecticut, I would go to the Words + Pictures Museum when they had their big shindigs. They had an Indy weekend that was cool, met Dave Sim, Evan Dorkin, Dave Latham, Ben Edlund, and a few others. I went to the Heavy Metal 20th Anniversary show - met 20 artists right there! (Also met Julie Strain that day, as Kevin Eastman ran the museum).
I'll post a few sigs here and there.

A few years ago, I went to Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC. There's a TV star/bodybuilder by the name of Lou Ferringo. He used to play the Hulk in the TV series, he was going around the con circles while the Hulk movie is playing. I had the pleasure of meeting him and it was nice. His wife was with him the whole time because he's deaf and had to have her for communication purposes. He's huger than I thought he was gonna be as I have his picture taken with my daughter. Once I find the pic, I'll post it here.
Lou Ferringo is the man!
I would take him over a CGI Hulk any day, even if the CGI Hulk came with a free Action Comics #72.
*Not a big fan of the new movie*

What "new" movie?
The Hulk movie that came out 3 years ago with that woman in the "Hot" thread posted here somewhere. It was a computer generated image(CGI) of Hulk. It was very out of whack in respect to the comics. It could have been better.

OH, I thought there might be a NEW "new" movie of the Hulk!! Oops sorry!
BTW LOU is the Hulk "Always has been and always will be"!! :!:

OH BTW I happen to like the "new" Hulk movie!!
Sorry. I just didn't like the way it represented Hulk. Also, he looked fake in general in relation to his interactions with the environment.

I've been lucky enough to meet Berni Wrightson several times, and I've gotta have 30 books signed by him. One time at a Con I noticed him sneaking outside, so I figured that was a good time for me to go have a smoke break. Well, whaddayaknow, Berni was doing the same! :-) So I got to chat with him 1 on 1 for the length of a cig :-)

Damn! That's a cool way to have a conversation with Berni. It's not like you would on the floor meeting them. One of the nicest guys on the floor you can meet is George Perez, Art Adams, Mark Bagley, Adam Hughes, and Dan Bereton. The not-so-nice guy are Joe Quesada. I was in line for his autograph to sign my Origins book, the one with the claws popped out for the first time. When I came to the next to the person in front of him, someone said that it's time for him to go, he got up and left, and there was only two people left in line. That pisses me off, in a way, I disrespect him for that. He could have been better.

Back in the early 1990's I had comics creators sign in my History of the DC Universe Hardback book. Many would take a couple extra minutes and do a little sketch.
After a few years I finally dusted off the book and got a few more this weekend: Rich Buckler, Mike Deodato, Paul Gulacy, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Steve Rude were my new signatures this weekend. Most did a little extra :)
Here are some of my signed pages in my book!

That's a cool and unusal item. I have a book like that but it's Marvel. I'll get it out from somewhere and post it later. Stuff like that has no preset price, just sentimental value. One question, didn't Linsner worked in DC before or you just let anybody in the comics biz sign/sketch the book?

I know Linsner did at least one cover for DC:

Keep in mind that I'll be 50 years old this year ................ physically 75 and mentally 12. I've met the following in person;
JACK KIRBY
Stan Lee
John Romita Sr.
John & Sal Buscema
Herb Trimpe
John Byrne
Lee Weeks
One time I answered an ad in CBG to purchase original art and Mrs. Gene Colan answered the telephone. I told her that Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, & Gene Colan were my favorite artists. She told me that Mr. Colan would love to hear that and put him on the phone to talk to me. We spoke for nearly an hour, it was a real honor. Mr Colan is a great guy and a real gentleman.
Stuck in the Silver Age....................acistaro.
That Chuck Dixon sure can draw Batman.

Gene Colon is the man!
I am with you. He is easily in the top three of the Silver Age artists.
His style is so unique and groundbreaking. I can't believe he is not more widely appreciated. In many ways, his work is much more innovative and imaginative than Ditko (in my book, Kirby stands alone as the most imaginative).
I have seen a few of his pencil works and I think they stand up with any 20th century mainstream fine artist. His pencil portraits are striking. Vague, yet revealing (as to the subject's character and emotions).
I think his work on the TTA Submariner and Daredevil is some of the very best that the Marvel SA had to offer. I love his work on Cap too.
What a dynamic style.

I've acquired some books with Gene Colan art in it and it does rock! Even though I'm young, I really do dig him. Last year, he was at the Heroes Con. I wanted to see him and have him sign my books but I had to work that weekend. Beside Gene, there isn't much artists out there from the 60's and 70's alive today. I would love to meet Dave Cockrum (just announced that he will be at Heroes Con this year), Jim Steranko, John Romita. The one that I missed is the KING himself.

I used to run the Universicon Conventions up in Boston while I was in college back in the mid to late 80s. Met tons of guys. Mike Baron, Frank Miller, Mike Gold, Denny O'Neil, Colleen Doran, Wendy Pini, Bill Willingham, Mike Grell.. so many others... most of them were good people.

Wendy Pini was HOT during her younger years.
That Red Sonja outfit she would wear at conventions would leave many a fanboy drooling......
She would go to conventions with artist Frank Thorne who would be dressed as a wizard.
